This is the cheesy sound effect that the radio host played whenever referencing his cult following of “Thrillers.” Doyle is an extremely click-bait style host, and this sound helps reinforce his following with their over the top style.

This cue noted when the narrative switched from the present into the past. Parts were told in the context of the radio interview while others were told from the past perspective. We framed this as Watson having a tape recorder of the past events. This evolved from initially thinking of a clock winding sound for the time jumps.

This cue is one of the foley style cues to bring life into the radio play. This particular one is of a mug breaking.

I served as the sound designer for this production. This was the second radio play in this series that Upstart Arts had done. My responsibilities were putting together the SFX files. The adaptation retells Sherlock Holmes stories through a radio podcast. Since the narrative jumps between the past and present, we wanted to make sure those jumps were clear to the audience. While there are some environmental sounds, the focus of the sound design was one the elements that impacted the story. Since it is a radio play, the audience relies on the sound to get a sense of what is physically occurring. This includes many of the SFX in the climatic scene where the woman confronts Milverton.
